Description: Awesome vintage Chinese Yixing Zisha unglazed clay teapot- handmade with inscriptions, bamboo, and a baby rat handled lid likely prior to WWII This Teapot is signed on the underside of the lid. The translation on the front of the pot is "Heart Pure," and culturally, the Rat represents wisdom and prosperity or born in the year of the Rat. Yixing clay comes from Yixing Town in Jiangsu Province in the delta of the Yangtze River. Yixing teapots can absorb trace amounts of tea flavors and minerals into the Teapot with each brewing, which gives the inside its own unique interior coating (flavors and colors in the future). This pot - although vintage and pre-owned - IS in UNUSED condition, so you get to be the first to "season" it. The mineral composition of the clay allows it to "breathe." Thus, clay and tea can exchange, and this can change the taste of the tea. Height of pot only 2.75 inches Weight: 13.2 oz Diameter: The opening of the pot is 3 inches Length: spout to handle 7.5 inches Base diameter 4 & 3/8 in.
