Thank you forsupporting our libraries and have a great weekend. This work derives from a collaboration of scholarship in Canada and the United States, undertaken as part of the septicentennial celebration of Dante's birth. Peter Brieger, of the University of Toronto and of the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, Toronto, has compiled a catalogue raisonne of fifty-four illuminated manuscripts of the Divine Comedy in European and American Collections. To illustrate it, he and Professor Meiss have selected some eleven hundred miniatures that are significant ichnographically or outstanding for their artistic quality and that appear in the earliest manuscripts illuminated within a decade of Dante's death up to about 1465. The work also includes general and iconographic indexes, a list of illustrations by manuscript, folio-by-folio descriptions of each manuscript, a copious bibliography. In volume 1 there are 131 comparative illustrations; in volume 2, 521 monochrome plates and sixteen color plates. This was published for Bollingen Foundation and is the first volume of a publication constituting the eighty-first work in Bollingen Series sponsored by and published for Bollingen Foundation. The dust jacket of volume 1 has a tear on the top edge and a few small holes. Box is in very good condition lightly soiled. Pages and bindings are tight. Volume 1 378 pp. Volume 2 539 pp. All proceeds benefit the Libraries of Pima County. Please review all photos. This listing has beendonated.
