Description: Up for sale is an antique Art Nouveau umbrella or parasol handle made of sterling silver and wood. Features a beautiful hand chased floral and leaf motif. Marked on the handle "Sterling" and has the hallmark of J.F. Fradley & Company (a cross) and the number 1229. Above the hallmark is a monogram with what appears to be the letters PAP. The wood on the handle may be ebony as this firm was known to import it from Gabon when making their canes or umbrella handles. Handle could be removed and made into a cane for modern day use. J.F. Fradley & Company was founded by Joseph Frederick Fradley in 1866, who served his apprenticeship as a Chaser under Wood & Hughes. His company exhibited at the Exposition in Paris in 1889. He retired in 1902 and the business was continued by his son George F. Fradley. The company existed until 1936. The last five photographs are of advertisements or examples of work that I was able to find about this company - for informational purposes only. Overall the item measures approximately 36 inches long - the sterling portion measures approximately 2.5 x 4.25 x 1 inches. The wood portion measures approximately 3.5 inches long by 1 inch wide. Please see photographs for condition and ask any questions prior to purchase. Additional photographs available upon request. Thanks for looking!
