kato 8033 box car set (2), wamu380000, n scale, ships from USA

Description: the 2 axle box car was the fundamental rolling stock of the JNR freight service from the 1920s through the 1980s......even after the devastation of WWll, 40000+ of the ubiquitous carriers were constructed and remained in service until the containerization revolution forced obsolescence.......fundamentally, most of these wagons had a maximum operating speed of 75 kph while carrying a maximum load of 15 tons.......every major JNR fabrication partner participated in the post WWll rebuild - kawasaki, nippon sharyo, mitsubishi, hitachi........the wamu80000 variant was a box car designed for palletized loading; 26605 wagons were produced to the design between 1960 and 1981 - the largest number to any single design in japanese railroading history.........the wamu380000 series was 500 wagons upgraded in the early 1990s with special roller bearings to reduce operational friction; the special color scheme and running numbers identified wagons that were so enhanced...........obsolescence was determined by the triumph of containerization in the mid 1980s...... I acquired this set as one of a group purchase of 7 kato freight wagons/sets from a private party in japan who averred that he had no knowledge of railroading and no knowledge of the history of the items as he was acting solely as a selling agent for the original owner....upon arrival, all of the sets appeared unused albeit with with some varying degrees of packaging degradation - not surprising considering the items release date.......this 8033 set was no exception to that characterization.....the wheel sets and wagon shells are pristine; the jewel case sows minor scuffing - which I cleaned with glue gone - and the inner retaining tray manifests ultraviolet discoloration - neither condition imperils the storage integrity of the packaging...... the set has no accessories.....
