Description: Henry Kloss designed this beautiful Mid-Century Modern (MCM) tabletop radio in 1965 as his last project before leaving KLH. It is an acoustic suspension radio which requires the speaker enclosure to be airtight. In the restoration, the front speaker panel was removed, which allowed for the speaker fabric to be carefully cleaned and reinstalled. The front of the speaker cone was doped as per the KLH service bulletin for this radio. This prevents air from leaking through the cone, maintaining the airtight enclosure. While the chassis was exposed, all of the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with new caps of the same value throughout the chassis. This preserves the power supply as well as bass/treble function of the radio. The volume as well as the bass/treble pots were cleaned with Caig Deox-It-100 to remove corrosion and contaminates, then further treated with Caig Fader F-100 to enhance the carbon contacts of the pots. The tuner shaft was carefully cleaned and lubricated. A new polarized power cable was installed at this time as well. The back panel was resealed with foam tape as all openings and the RCA plug caps were installed to prevent any air leaks from the back panel of the radio. The result is a radio that sounds rich and solid! Here is a video in action: https://youtu.be/V0dseCbsBCg Cosmetically, the outer walnut case had a couple of dings which were resolved with a color stick. The existing finish was removed and restored with several coats of tung oil for a rich finish. A beautiful MCM radio that would be a great gift! The radio will be double boxed to minimize the possibility of shipping damage.
