Description: This is a HTF and high grade adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series titled "Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock #1" published by Eternity Comics in 1989. It features the title character Captain Harlock in a story titled "An Exchange of Futures." This black & white comic book is a first printing and a key issue, graded 9.8 by CGC. Issues in high grade are impossible to find with the black covers and this copy was part of a warehouse find and is tied as the highest graded on the CGC census. Written by Robert W. Gibson and Ben Dunn, this series is based on Leiji Matsumoto's manga character Captain Harlock. In the 30th century, the Earth and its colonies lost a bitter war with the forces of the Illumidas, a race of aliens who exist only to conquer. Now the once-proud inhabitants of Earth live as slaves -- at least the lucky ones. Only the pirate Harlock declared he would not be a party to the occupation. With the aid of Tochiro (perhaps the greatest mechanical engineer of his time), and a crew of idealistic outcasts, Harlock left Earth in the magnificent space galleon Arcadia, to live a renegade's life in the "sea of stars." But in his heart, he could never truly abandon the land of his birth, nor the people who, without his leadership, would be subjugated forever. Eternity's 1989-1992 adaptation of Captain Harlock was discontinued after it was discovered that Eternity/Malibu did not have the Captain Harlock rights. The alleged representative for the rights to Harlock to whom Malibu paid money, claiming to represent Coral Pictures, turned out to be fraudulent and was in no way connected to the actual rights holders.
