Description: This box measuring: 4 x 2 x 4.8 cm. (1 7/8" x 7/8" x 1 7/8", is made from the fork of a deer antler. After trimming off both branches; I finished both faces; and inlaid a 16 x 12 mm. mahogany obsidian cabochon topped by a 6 mm. onyx bead on one side, and a 12 x 10 mm. onyx cabochon on the other. Obsidian is volcanic glass that comes in many patterns and colors. On the bottom, I cut the lid, and carved a prosperity rune. I filled the carving with a mixture of black, acrylic paint and glue. This is reminiscent of a common hunter-gatherers’ practice of making paint by mixing hide glue and ground pigments i.e. ocher, charcoal, bone or clay. The swivel lid closes tightly to keep your treasures safe. Its inner chamber’s dimensions are approximately: 2.5 x 1.5 x 2.5 cm. (1" x 1/2" x 1"). Because the antler core is grainy, I lined the inside with a non-toxic acrylic furniture finish. The last three pictures help show size. The first two of these are for scale; while, the last picture shows more of my work, and gives a better idea as to different sizes.
