Description: Mid-Century Bakelite Stereoscopic Viewer + Film Strips- TRU-VUE Film Strip Viewer You are bidding on a Tru-Vue Film Strip Viewer-13 Strips and Original wooden Box. The box appears to have been crafted in a parquet pattern. I think it is supposed to look like film strips. It is inset with numerous species of wood. It is a hinged box that is 6 ½ inches by 5 ¼ by2 5/6 inches. It contains 13 original cartons with their original strips. Some of the cartons are missing bottoms. Nothing has been done to enhance the appearance of the piece. The strips are in black and white. They are titled as follows: Brookfield Zoo, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Death Valley, Movie Stars Homes, Yosemite, San Francisco, Grand Canyon, Depth Photography, Westwood-Santa Monica-Beverly Hills, Back Stage at the Florentine, Hollywood and Los Angeles. Some of the strips have separated into shorter bits. The Tru-Vue film strip viewer was manufactured by the Tru-Vue company, which was originally founded as Chicago Dial. The company was part of Rock Island Bridge and Iron Works, and produced stereoscopic film strips and their Bakelite viewers in Rock Island, Illinois from 1932 to 1951. The lenses are dirty and have some scratches. You can still easily enjoy the pictures. Tru-Vue film strips featured images of travel, scenery, animals, children's stories, and historic and current events. The company also innovated by etching glass on TV screens to create a non-glare surface that allowed for a clearer picture. Filmstrips were a common teaching and learning tool in schools in the mid-20th century. They were a less expensive alternative to full motion educational films, and were durable, quick to rewind, and required little storage space. There were some forgeries of Tru-Vue products, including the British True-View from the 1950s and a True-View viewer from Hong Kong in the 1950s.
