Description: MULAN First Ancestor at Fa Family Temple Window Pencil Layout Drawing Disney MULAN First Ancestor at Fa Family Temple Window Pencil Layout Drawing Disney Click images to enlarge Description Mulan, original pencil layout drawing of the First Ancestor looking out the window of the Fa family temple to ask Mushu if he has awakened the great stone dragon to protect Mulan but is unaware that that Mushu has destroyed the stone dragon used in the production of the 1998 Walt Disney animated feature film Mulan, about 8 1/2 by 7 inches on a 13 by 10 1/2 inch sheet of animation paper, in excellent condition. The drawing is unsigned but was drawn by Tom Shannon, the lead layout artist in Burbank on Mulan, who worked at Disney for over 20 years as a layout artist in story development and was responsible for creating the visual scene in which Mushu establishes himself at the beginning of the movie as a replacement for the destroyed stone dragon. Tom Shannon's job was normally to develop visual story elements to complement the written script including the design of details in characters and backgrounds before the final script was approved and animation began. He worked on many Disney films including Aladdin, Atlantis:The Lost Empire, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, and Mulan. This drawing comes from an estate sale of Tom Shannon conducted several years ago. Some of Tom's artwork is included in The Art of Mulan written by Jeff Kurtti.
