The German Army stayed in the Grand Hotel Weber in Antwerp in 1914. Vintage Travel Luggage Labels Before World War II labels were used to mark traveler’s luggage to show where they were headed. As international travel for vacations rapidly declined due to the war, travel labels for roads, hotels and popular travel destinations, became popular to collect on road trips. During this time period, they were used to decorate travel cases, steamer trunk luggage, cars and other travel supplies. Many believe they caught on so fast because they where some of the first self adhesive labels that were available to the general public. Labels before that required a special application process.
