Along with his large-scale oil paintings of naval battle scenes he was also known for his watercolors of coastal and ship scenes. March 2, 1740 - March 9, 1821. In 1772 a French Prize ship captured by Admiral Rodney went aground near Ilfracombe on the rocks as depicted here in Pocock's painting.
