Documentary that examines the making of Nirvana's 1993 album 'In Utero'. The album, the follow up to 1991's phenomenally successful 'Nevermind', was mired in controversy from the beginning. The band hired Steve Albini, known for his lo-fi recording techniques as producer, and there were rumours that the group's record label were dissatisfied with the results. Nonetheless, the album received critical acclaim upon its release and is considered by many Nirvana fans to be the equal of its more illustrious predecessor. Although their sophmore album, 1989's NEVERMIND, will - with some justification - always be the record NIRVANA are championed for most regularly, it's quite disturbing follow-up, '93's IN UTERO, is still the favorite for a lot of fans. As well as containing many of Kurt Cobain's strongest songs, this alarming but strangely satisfying set will of course forever remain Nirvana's swansong, and in so doing it becomes most strangely attached to its composer's darkest hour.
