Description: Oenothera lindheimeri is a herbaceous perennial in the Onagraceae family. A native to Texas and southern Louisiana. Common names are Lindheimer's bee blossom, white gaura, pink gaura, Lindheimer's clockweed, and Indian feather. It has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. It grows to around 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It has a rhizome underground where the stems emerge. The lanceolate leaves are 3-4 inches long, with teeth on the margins and tiny hairs. The flowers are born on an inflorescence about an inch wide with four petals. They are in bloom from early spring until late fall. The flowers are bright white with long stamens that are hair-like. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. This drought-tolerant plant is suitable for xeriscaping. Zones 6-9 Germination Sow seeds 1/4" deep and lightly cover with a medium. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic but maintain a temperature around 65-75F. Germination 7-30 days. Germination is in 21-60 days.
