Description: ARTIST: Sigurd Jacobsen is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times and who was a popular exhibitor – f.ex. at the famous Charlottenborg. He went to various art schools – among them the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. Most of his paintings are from Denmark, but he went on a study trip to Norway in 1937. Sigurd Jacobsen’s favorite motif is landscapes – often with cows - and he was inspired by his close friend Rasmus “X” Christiansen. Tragically he died in 1942 at the age of only 32 after having contracted a kidney disease and on top of that pneumonia. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a very appealing rendering of 3 black-and-white milk cows grazing and resting in a field near a bay on a summer’s day in 1940. This race of cows is the most iconic in Denmark and often features, when Danish artists try to capture the idyll of the Danish countryside. The fence surrounding their enclosure can be seen both to the left and in front of them. The painting is dated to June(“juni”), 1940. Signed: Monogram: “SJ” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 95 cm/37.4" * 68 cm/26.8". Without frame: 84 cm/33.1" * 57 cm/22.4". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains and a large chip in the lower part.
