It is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It was published in De Wit’s world atlas, Atlas sive description Terrarum Orbis circa 1670, a time of busy activity in the region by the Dutch East India Company, particularly trade with the Spice Islands, and the map gives special attention to the many islands and major ports. The artwork surrounding the title cartouche shows turbaned warriors and native figures. Frederick De Wit, an apprentice of William Blaeu, founded his own printing house in Amsterdam in 1648 and became one of the most prominent and successful map engravers and publishers in the city following the decline of the Blaeu and Jansson establishments.
