Description: This is a stunning original early American mourning painting created circa 1805-1815, recently discovered in a local estate. Possibly originating from New England. The work features a weeping woman shown weeping by the side of a classical urn-topped grave. A willow tree grows in the middle ground. In one hand she blots her eyes and in the other she holds an open bible perhaps. The central plaque is without writing and there does not appear to be a signature anywhere. Medium: watercolor on paper. Framed as show (newer). Approximately 15 inches in diameter. Framed size: 20 x 19.5 inches
