Description: From the Leonard Piszkiewicz Chicago collection. Group of 4 covers, one with a letter showing merchandise order. The covers are postmarked in 1862, 1863 and 1864. At one time Cooley, Wadsworth & Company was Chicago's largest dry goods company. They name transition over the years was Cooley, Wadworth then the Cooley, Farwell then Farwell, Field and finally Marshall Field & Company in 1881 until 2006 when Marshall Fields became part of the Macy's chain. Early personnel included elite members of Chicago retailing including Levi Leiter, Marshall Field, Potter Palmer and John Villiers Farwell.
