(New Zealand became fully independent in 1947.) One side of the coin has an uncrowned portrait of King George VI facing left and surrounded by the words "George VI King Emporer". The other side of the coin shows a kiwi bird facing left with the words "New Zealand" above and "One Florin 1940" below with "KG" to the right in smaller font, which are the initials of George Kruger Gray, the engraver.
