Rare RAPCO Famous Monsters Candle-making Set Complete All 4 Molds w/ The Mummy!

Description: The Holy Grail of candle making kits, this is the ultra rare 1974 Rapco Famous Monsters Candlemaking Kit. During the craft craze of the 1970's, Rapco offered the Famous Monsters casting kits for both plaster and wax candles, including the coveted Mummy. The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Wolfman and Frankenstein were originally offered as plaster kits individually and later the Wolfman and Frankenstein were offered as a dual candlemaking kit. Oddly, the Mummy was offered later almost as an afterthought and only as an ala carte plaster mold by mail order. I do not believe the Mummy was ever sold as an individual kit. However later the elusive Mummy ended up being included in the flagship kit of the series which was this candle making kit including all four of the monsters. It is important to note that the candlemaking molds are much more substantial, thicker and more durable than the plaster molds due to the heat of the wax in the candle making process. Because the thinner plaster casting molds would break after 2-3 castings, it would be unlikely to find a Mummy plaster mold in useable condition. This Mummy mold is extremely rare and almost impossible to find. It appears there was an error when packing this kit as the Wolfman mold contains 2 front molds of his face. It appears the original owner mailed in for a plaster mold replacement. So that piece has 3 front and 1 rear included as well as the plaster kit instruction sheet. As you can see from the photos, this kit is in good used condition, all of the molds have been used and have wax residue (which could be easily cleaned) but are in functional condition with no cracks. All of the original items from the kit are included; the wax melting pan, paint set and original wax. The first photo shows everything included in the auction. There is an opened package of wax which might have originally been particles but is now is a solid chunk wrapped in yellow plastic. The box itself has some ware but is in overall great condition with great graphics considering it is over 50 years old. These kits are now collected as much for the period artwork which is sure to bring a smile to anyone who was a monster collecting kid during that time. This kit is far more rare than the individual monster plaster casting kits. Also included are the original instruction manual with ordering information for related supplies (it is yellowed and has a phone # written on it. This rare kit is certainly not museum grade but would be great for someone interested in using it to cast a set of the monsters in plaster or wax, or any other material. This would be a great set for any collector interested in re-creating the set, as well as displaying the entire set.
