Description: Offered here is a rare set of (8) 1897 A. G. Spalding’s Bicycle Route Trip Maps. Each booklet measures 3 1/4” x 5”, printed cardboard covers, inside front covers with ad for the Christy Anatomical Saddle; inside rear covers with ads for Spalding bicycles and accessories. Rear cover lists eight trip maps, as follows: New York to Peekskill; New York to Patchogue; New York to Greenwood Lake; New York to Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey; New York to New Brunswick; New York to Asbury Park and Bay Head; New York to Oyster Bay, Long Island and New York around Staten Island. All eight titles listed on the rear covers are present here; it appears that other titles were published, as the map for New York to Peekskill indicates a Route 2 Peekskill to Poughkeepsie; additionally, in the upper left hand corner of the front covers are route numbers, with the Staten Island example noting number 17. As these booklets are quite scarce, there is limited information regarding the number of other route maps that may have been published. Each folding map measures 3” x 22”.
