Description: Red BerylTopaz Mt., Thomas Range, Juab Co., Utah, USA 0.35g 1.3 x 1.0 x 0.5cm This is a crystal of red beryl in matrix. The crystal measures 4mm across, is well formed and raspberry red in color. This is a rare and highly sought after mineral. Red Beryl is a very rare form of Beryl (in the same family as Emerald and Aquamarine). It gets its color from Manganese impurities. Red Beryl was discovered in the Thomas Range in Utah and originally Called Bixbite after Maynard Bixby, however, that name was retracted to avoid confusion with Bixbyite (a manganese oxide also named after Maynard Bixby). It is only found in 3 localities: the Thomas Range in Utah, the Wah Wah Mountains in Utah, and Paramount Canyon in New Mexico.
