Description: ALEXANDER BOGDANOVICH (SMOLENSK, 22. 10 (3. 11), 1874 – MOSCOW, 6. 4, 1950) He was born into a family of teachers. He completed a medical degree and was already a practicing physician when he began vocal studies in St. Petersburg with Irena Onnore and later, in Milan, with the famous tenors Augusto Broggi and Fernando Valero. Since 1897, Bogdanovich took occasional singing lessons from Leonid Sobinov. Due to his involvement in revolutionary student circles, he faced reprisals multiple times. From 1900, Bogdanovich worked as a doctor first in Smolensk, where he participated in musical evenings, performing as a singer-amateur for the first time. In 1901, he was arrested, but thanks to the efforts of Leonid Sobinov, he was released from prison in January 1902. In 1906, Bogdanovich made his debut as Sinodal in Demon (Rubinstein) at the Private Russian-Italian Opera Theatre in St. Petersburg, where he enjoyed a successful season.During the 1904-1905 season, he performed in Tiflis, and the following year at the St. Petersburg National Opera House. From 1906 to 1936, Bogdanovich was a soloist at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, where he helped establish the Opera Studio. Since 1930, he served as the artistic director of the Stanislavsky Opera Theatre. His repertoire included the roles of Tsar Berendey (The Snow Maiden), Finn (Ruslan and Lyudmila), Faust, Lohengrin, and Alfredo (La Traviata), similar to that of Leonid Sobinov, who had encouraged him to pursue a singing career and supported him both financially and morally during his challenging years of study and apprenticeship. Bogdanovich possessed a voice of rare beauty with a soft timbre and mastered the vocal technique of Italian bel canto. Over more than 30 years at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, he performed in 45 operas. TRACKLIST 1. Demon (Rubinstein) Air of Prince Sinodal 2-22552 1394z G&T, St Petersburg 1904 2.
