Description: Vintage SAE (Scientific Audio Electronics) Model 2300, 150wpc stereo power amplifier. Factory rated for impedance loads anywhere between 4-16 ohms, which covers about 98% of the speakers out there. Incredibly over-built design by the legendary James Bongiorno featuring a HUGE toroidal transformer and main supply caps the size of Mountain Dew cans. Choice of direct or capacitor-coupled RCA inputs. Class A/B output stage (runs nice 'n cool). Built like an absolute TANK. We've proudly owned this beautiful, classic amp for many years. In our opinion this generation of SAE is one of the finest sounding amplifiers at anywhere near this price point. So why sell this gem? Just 'thinning the herd' so to speak as we are fortunate to own several other outstanding amplifiers. Very clean cosmetics particularly for a 43-year old component (built in August, 1981), showing some small scuff marks here 'n there but nothing that detracts significantly. Worth noting this is a fairly late build since this model debuted in 1978, and therefore should have all factory improvements and revisions which were performed over the production span. Never rack mounted. The LED power meters work properly (see images and video) and peak at 300wpc. You'd be hard pressed to find a significantly nicer 2300. The sound quality is superb with a deep, layered soundstage, massive dynamics, great bass 'slam' and a very low noise floor. Matter of fact, when we first heard it many years ago, sonically it was so far beyond the Nakamichi we were listening to at the time that it genuinely reset the bar in our experience as to what was possible with 2-channel audio. No exaggeration. Fed a high quality source, the Nak was '2D' in its presentation, the SAE '3D'. No one has yet come up with a reliable method to measure that particular psychoacoustic phenomenon, but the ears don't lie. It made us solid believers in the brand, and single-handedly rekindled our love affair with high-end audio. It's worth mentioning this is not the only SAE piece we're fortunate enough to own and enjoy. If you're a big fan of component brands such as Mark Levinson, Accuphase, NYAL, Berkeley, Krell, Kinergetics Research, Magnepan, Infinity, McIntosh, Audio Research, Daniel Hertz, Conrad Johnson, LampiZator, Bel Canto, Art Audio, JBL, AR, Magico, Wadax, McIntosh, Dan D'Agostino, Musical Fidelity, Croft, Wilson Audio, and the like, this amplifier is unlikely to disappoint... and all without breaking the bank. What else is out there, sub-$1,000 that can significantly eclipse this SAE? In our experience, very little, if anything. In our opinion, an audiophile-grade amplifier of this build quality and sonic caliber in 2024 dollars will most assuredly cost north of $10-15,000+. LOCAL PICKUP IS WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED! We reserve the right to end the listing at anytime as this 2300 may be advertised elsewhere, such as US Audiomart. Note: the large rack handles may be removed for safest shipping and are very simply reattached with a 5/32-inch Allen wrench and the (8) provided bolts. The DC offset on this model is not adjustable and measures roughly 30mv in one channel and 125mv in the other -- inconsequential. Please view our excellent feedback rating built over 25 years with the Ebay community and purchase with confidence. We never use 'stock images' -- what you see here is EXACTLY what you're purchasing. If shipping is required, the amp will be very well packed to insure safe arrival. As with virtually any vintage electronic item, we do NOT accept returns. Shipping cost is calculated based on location anywhere in the continental U.S. and we'll do our best to utilize the least costly method -- no overseas buyers on this item please. Any questions, feel free to ask.
