The handmade English Pewter and black enamel ring is the badge of the ancient Celtic god of death, Ankou. The shield or center of the ring features an equidistant cross, and a skull marks each of the four corners of the cross. The ring measures approximately 1 1/2" long and 1 1/4" wide on the top. Symbolism: Ankou is a psychopomp who guides souls to the land of the dead. As such, he has become a personification of the Spirit of Death itself. Handcrafted English Pewter: This ring is handmade in England using the highest quality English Pewter. English Pewter is a lead-free, zinc-free alloy which is valued second only to silver. English Pewter is much harder to craft than the low-grade zinc and lead alloys (which contain a significant amount of toxic impurities) that are still being used in some jewelry manufacture today. Because these rings are handcrafted and hand-finished, each one is unique; and there are slight variations between individual pieces. Also, slight imperfections in the finished product are normal, expected, and add to the unique handmade character of each piece.
