She met her future husband, Enrico Petrillo, when they were both visiting Medjugoje in 2002. They both admired the Franciscans and made several pilgrimages to Assisi; they became engaged at the end of one of the pilgrimages and were married in Assisi in 2008. One month after they were married Chiara became pregnant; later tests showed the child to have anencephaly and the parents refused to abort; her daughter was born at 37 weeks and lived only a half hour, long enough to be baptized Maria Grazia Letizia - the "Grace and Joy" of their lives. A year later, Chiara was again pregnant and the ultrasound showed the child had no legs; later tests showed that he had no kidneys and had other problems, yet the parents persevered in believing that their unborn son deserved the life that God gave him. The child was born, baptised Davide Giovanni and lived only 38 minutes. The couple became public speakers at Pro-life events in Italy. When Chiara became pregnant again, this time the tests showed it would be completely healthy. At 5 months into the pregnancy, Chiara developed a bad lesion on her tongue which was removed and discovered to be cancer. Chiara chose not to undergo treatment as it would endanger her unborn son; even if delaying treatment might endanger her own life. The cancer caused her to have difficulties in speaking and seeing. Their healthy son Francesco was born May 30, 2011. Chiara began treatments immediately but by March 2012 it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her liver, breast, lungs and one eye, and her condition was terminal. Chiara met Pope Benedict XVI alongside her husband and son on 2 May 2012, where the couple were able to discuss their experiences with the pope. Chiara died at home on June 13, 2012. Cardinal Vallini presided over her funeral Mass on 16 June where he remembered her as "the second Gianna Beretta." In 2018 Cardinal Angelo Donatus issued an edict that established the cause for her eventual canonization would be introduced in Rome and also naming Chiara Petrillo as a Servant of God. The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion.
