Description: Sevres, France. Probably painted in Paris. The porcelain 1854 and 1858. The decoration later, probably closer to 1880. A most unusual cup and saucer, the delightful polychrome-enamelled dancing insects and fairies with butterflies on this demitasse set were almost certainly painted on white Sevres seconds by a skilled and enterprising independent decorator. Both items are painted with gilt dentil rims. The cup with green S 54 with a strike through the mark, indicating it was a second. Various incised marks near footrim.
