Riley combined design #33 and #34 from architect George Franklin Barber's Cottage Souvenir No. 2 catalog to create this 1892 Queen-Anne Victorian home. The house is typical of Barber's work, combining an elegant design and decorative ornamentation with a fluid harmony of proportions. Originally built in Polk County, Oregon, the house was later moved to Monmouth County for restoration purposes. David Riley acquired the land for the original lot from his wife, who was the daughter of an early pioneer. Riley was one of the most historically influential men of the community, bringing advances such as the first electric light plant and the first sawmill factory to Polk County. As one of the finest examples of the Queen Anne style remaining in this area, an intense effort went into the restoration to save this historical home.
