This auction is for a metal belt buckle made by Bergamot Brass Works, item number V-36 stamped on the back. I am not sure what year this was made, but I have owned it since the mid-1970s, when I wore it a LOT -- hence the rubbing that has "smoothed out" large parts of the ship, the lettering under it, and elsewhere. Whether that counts as a flaw or a feature is up to you, but it definitely makes the buckle look a lot more ancient than it is! I have read online that some of these buckles were sold at Disneyland, but that's not where I got mine. I can't remember where I *did* get it, but it does not have Disneyland stamped on the back anywhere, and I didn't get to California until the 1980s. The front design is a large sailing ship under the words "Foreign and Domestic Gold Dealers." The word "Australia" is to the left, and "South Africa" to the right. "Livingston Wells & Co." is below that. At the very bottom, within the scrollwork, the words "London and Paris" are almost rubbed completely away. (The only way I know that those words are supposed to be there is from looking at photos of this buckle in less-rubbed condition!) Measures approx. four inches wide by 2 and 7/8 inches tall. The metal thing on the back will accommodate a belt up to 1.75" wide. (Belt not included.) You'll love it! Any questions, just ask!
