Description: This lovely Japanese solid wood sosaku creative kokeshi doll is in very good vintage condition and measures 7.5" high. She was made by arguably the most famous creative kokeshi doll maker in Japan - Okamoto Usaburo. He has won many of the highest awards in Japan for his kokeshi doll creations, including one for this doll. Her name is "Ume" which translates to "Plum Blossom". Her kimono has been stained an attractive medium oak color, which still allows the beautiful wood grain to show through, and it matches her hair color. The kimono is decorated with red and white plum blossom flowers, which are a harbinger of springtime in Japan. Some of the design was burned into the wood for added depth and texture. Her sweet facial features are just adorable with wide set eyes, framed by her traditional hair style. The artist burned his name into the side of the doll (see last picture), and his red and white sticker is on the bottom. Please see below for flaws. This kokeshi doll is in good vintage condition - hard to find many flaws other than 2 small dings on the hair and one on the back - and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare. Please remember that this is a vintage doll that may have minor imperfections, such as dust/dirt/dings/scratches/scuffs/age spots. And please note the size of the doll as the pictures may make it look larger than it actually is.
