Description: Old-Fashioned Verses by William T. Hornaday. Clark & Fritts, 1919. Hardcover without dust jacket. "Hazard" Edition. Signed by the author and inscribed on the invocation page, "And here do I extend...". Illustrated. Ex-library copy. Sadly, never checked out. This could be a first edition though another copy of the "hazard" edition exists on line with a different frontispiece photo, so it's not known which came first. A note on the signature. William T. Hornaday was a zoologist and first director of the Bronx zoo. He sent or sold this presentation copy to Thomas J. Fitzpatrick, a Kansas City professor of botany, in 1931. Fitzpatrick was also an avid book collector and his 20,000 volume collection was later purchased by the Kansas City public library in 1953. There is a note above the inscription dated six days after the author signed it, indicating Fitzpatrick's reception date and the amount he paid for the book, $2.00. He also noted "complete" with initials. Perhaps he read it.
