This poster visualizes all the variations of the 3 Southwest Boeing 737s which have worn the airline's famous "California One" livery since its introduction in 1997. The livery was first introduced in 1997 on a 737-300 to celebrate Southwest Airlines becoming the largest airline in California at that time. When introduced into service, the aircraft did a special routing sending it to almost every California airport served by the carrier that first day. The aircraft spent 20 years in that livery, though eventually it got the "Canyon Blue" tail in 2003 and blended winglets applied in 2009. In 2017, a 737-700 was repainted into the California One livery with the most modern Southwest Airlines tail design and both aircraft operated in the airline's network for just 1 day, both of them ending up at Southwest's large Oakland hub in the evening parked side-by-side to mark the retirement of the 737-300. In 2022, Southwest applied Split Scimitar winglets to this aircraft before a mass-retirement of 737-700s which left the carrier with no California One design for several months until a 737-800 was given this livery in the summer of 2023. The aircraft are displayed against the California flag and the California route map used by Southwest Airlines in its official publicaitons.
