Description: StaffaScotlandGandhi (1979) CTO NH Here are two stamps celebrating Gandhi (from an 8-stamp block). Staffa is a rugged island of the Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland; it is part of the unitary council area of Argyll and Bute. The stamps are cinderellas because the island is uninhabited; seabirds abound but they have little need of a postal system. Some of the stamps before 1980 might have been used in a ceremonial sense to cover the boat passage from Oban on the mainland (see https://colnect.com/en/stamps/stamp/1014407-Mahatma_Gandhi_of_India-Mahatma_Gandhi_of_India-Scotland_Staffa_Cinderella_Stamps). Obviously, no cinderella collection is complete without Staffa stamps. Staffa is famous in geology for its columnar basalt outcrops (similar to those of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland). The island's natural beauty currently attracts tourists; in the past, Sir Joseph Banks (botanist), Queen Victoria, and Felix Mendelssohn visited Staffa. Banks named a large cavern Fingal's Cave. Mendelssohn visited the cave and was inspired to compose Die Hebriden (The Hebrides) overture. If you get 10 minutes of free time, you will find it worthwhile to listen to this wonderful and exciting composition. Turn off the lights, turn up the volume, lie down, and it will be easy to imagine you are on a sailing ship on fair and (especially) stormy seas! My two favorite versions may be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdQyN7MYSN8 (conducted by Gardiner)andhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed1pmhHXFwY (conducted by Orozco-Estrada) Shipping Combined: $0.25 for each additional lot Possible FREE USED STAMPS with Purchase Specific low-value used stamps are hard to find for sale because the seller can’t make a profit, and yet they are typically very common. If you are searching for such stamps for your collection, I might be able to help: 1. When you Checkout on eBay, click on Message to seller. 2. Enter the Scott Catalog numbers of the low-value stamps you need. For this offer, a “low-value stamp” is defined as one that has the minimum catalog value ($0.25), but I will also consider stamps that have a higher CV (up to $0.50). 3. You can enter up to 10 Scott Catalog numbers, which will be accommodated easily by the 500-character limit. I will provide up to 5 stamps, but only if I have them in stock. In other words, you may not receive any free stamps with your order, but you might receive up to 5. You can request a stamp from any country. 4. Here’s an example of what you might enter in the Message to seller box: US #1036, US #1136, CANADA #1169, CANADA #1359c, GREAT BRITAIN #MH78, PAKISTAN #134a…(up to 10 stamps total) 5. Be sure to click Add to save the information that you enter. Good luck!
