Cartouche to back The print is copied and enhanced from the 1713 engraving by Matteo Ripa based on a painting by Shen Yu. The caption under the engraving reads "The Figure of Heaven is all Delightful--A View of the Temple serv'd by Eunuchs, & of the delicious Round Island it stands upon". This refers to an area in the Chinese emperor's summer palace at Gehol (sometimes spelled Jehol; modern name Chengde), about 106 miles north of Beijing.
