Shield is directly attached to a sturdy black-toned base metal figure-8 key ring (shown separately in second photo) with solid base metal bail. The key chain segment measures approximately 48mm (2") in length. To add a key to the chain, pry open the top section of the key chain and slip your key between the 2 separated sections until it rests to the side.
