Description: SUSSE FRERES, ANTIQUE 19thC FRENCH PATINATED BRONZE DESK SEAL, DIANE DE POITIERS Description An antique French bronze desk seal, depicting Diane de Poitiers, dating to the second half of the 19th Century. The miniature bust of Diane de Poitiers (after Jean Goujon 1510-1565), created by the famous Susse Freres in Paris, is well cast and patinated. Elements of her head-dress and ribbons have been parcel gilded. She sits on a square plinth the base engraved with the name 'Laura'.The Susse Frères firm was established in 1839 by brothers Michel Victor Susse and Amedee Susse, setting up their foundry in Paris. The company was famous for producing exceptionally cast bronzes, often featuring applied patinas and gilding. The company continued to be run by Susse family members until the 1970s.
