Description: Sauce Boat Description Exquisite Sèvres porcelain lantern sauce boat from the Princes’ Service of French King Louis Philippe (1830-1848). This piece is simple and elegant. The curved handle is covered in 24-karat gold in perfect condition, as if never used. The main porcelain decoration is a frieze of golden ivy leaves all around the top of the sauce boat with a central monogram (“H” or “M”) surrounded by a garland of knotted oak leaves and laurel. The Sèvres FactoryThe Sèvres factory of soft-paste porcelain was founded approximately in 1738 in Vincennes by bankers and financiers with the aim of making true or “hard-paste” porcelain, like Meissen did.
