Description: Up for sale is this copy of The Beatles - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da / Julia process test pressing for the Jukebox series Normally about a dozen or less process test pressings of a particular record are run to assure proper vinyl distribution, label placement, vinyl thickness, groove integrity, even stamper pressure and other process concerns. At the point that all the critical process criteria are met, the test pressings are then ground up and recycled back into the system for reuse in pressing more records. A few like this are the rarity that make it out of the recycle bin and into collectors hands. In the case of this experimental pressing, first a 45 label for one side of the record was placed face down on the bottom pressing stamper. Then a half squirt application of the clear vinyl was extruded, then a plain white unmarked label was placed on this half squirt of vinyl and the second half squirt of molten vinyl was applied and topped with the face up label for the other side of the record. Then the pressing stampers were pressed together and the resulting process test control 45 was pressed and could be removed to examine for even pressure distribution of the dies throughout the entirety of the face of the record. As you can see from this example, the stamper left areas with no white label dismembered and distributed within the layers of the clear vinyl. Hence the pressing stampers were not totally square and parallel with each other and the pressing pressure was uneven. These test pressings cannot be played on standard phonograph players due to the sometimes heavy roll of flash vinyl attached around their perimeter. They also tend to be slightly warped as they were removed from the process before they were properly cooled and often the labels are incorrectly placed and the 45 holes not punched. The grooves tend to have noticeable scratches due to the fact that the pressings were removed from the manufacturing process and tossed into waste recycle containers. This one has one minor scuff that I noticed and photographed. There is a small bit of standard black vinyl probably from the vinyl injector and a previous run of records. When an item is play graded please understand that my turntable and cartridge for the last 25+ years has been a Pioneer PL-71 with an Ortofon concorde cartridge of some kind. The stylus is replaced every 6 months and the cartridge every 5 - 6 years. Mint… Perfect record, clean gloss, no marks, beautiful in every way. Played once or twice if at all. NM Near Mint - Very clean, Looks new only a few light marks if any. A great record. VG+… Used, but not abused. Should play, and look very nice with minimal surface noise. VG… Still a nice record. Looks a bit used, light scratches, no gouges, still plays well, some surface noise. G… A bit rough but should play ok. Fills the collection. Has multiple scratches. What a bargain!! SEALED: Applies only to sealed records. Naturally, it is assumed that the disc condition would be MINT, but that cannot be guaranteed. There can be production flaws on even these records. These items can only be assured of being sealed but not necessarily "MINT" condition. If you don't see something.. Ask ! I probably have it.
