Description: The Blowing Rock, Horizontal, Blowing Rock, North Carolina. This print has a 17" x 8.5" image size, and is printed on a sheet of 19" x 13" archival paper. It is an Epson ink jet fine art print of one of my most popular oil paintings. The print is on medium weight, 100% cotton fiber paper and features an acid-free base with an elegant velvet surface. Treat it the way you would a fine watercolor: do not allow it to get wet and do not place it in direct sunlight. With a minimum of care, it should last for many generations. I like to mat it in an off-white, acid-free mat with a 3" margin all the way around. Leave a .25" gap on all four sides between mat opening and image for signature to show in bottom right. The Blowing Rock is a tourist attraction and gave its name to the town of Blowing Rock, NC where it is located. It is called "The Blowing Rock" based on a legend in which a young Cherokee brave was holding his young bride in his arms as they stood on the rock, looking out over the mountains. Suddenly a gust of wind blew the girl out of his arms; but he held tightly to her hands, as she floated out over the gorge below. People still climb up onto the rock, hoping they will experience something similar. The view of the mountains is spectacular, but they are usually draped in fog, as in my painting. Still, the rock itself, and the evergreen tree next to it, are beautifully symbolic of the region. If you visit The Blowing Rock attraction, you will be able to see the original painting. - Waitsel
