Description: 1984 1st edition later printing (16th) hardcover. Illustrated by her husband Don Wood. Audrey and Don narrowly lost to the winner of the Caldecott Medal a Chris Van Allsburg and his story Polar Express. The Woods King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub I felt was the the better book worthy of the medal. This 1984 story did win the New York Times certificate of excellence, won the Society of Children’s Book Writers Award given by their peers in the industry, won the Golden Kite Best Picture illustration Award, Booklist Children’s Choice Award and made the best books of Booklists 1980’s. This book I’m surprised is in the condition it is in since it spent most of its life in the children’s bookcases. The Dustjacket has issues but served it’s duty well leaving the book in very good condition. Except for an inlaw thought it a good idea to write names in the book. However that is the only grafitti. Crayons didn’t attack, sticky fingers somehow avoided this copy, never seen it discarded outside for who knows how long. Time to pass it along. This copy has more to give. Dust Jacket is the original with the price still intact. There are several rips across the top. Those have been repaired, then there is the heavy wear along its edges and corners but no chunks missing. Placed it in a archival wrapper to maintain its integrity for a few more decades.
