The painter Tomás Sánchez is recognized internationally for his fabulous landscapes, where the artist creates a new earthly world from the spiritual calm that resides within himself. These landscapes were preceded by figurative works in an expressionist style, a tendency he developed under the influence of the artist Antonia Eiriz, who is recognized as the most important neo-figurative artist in Cuban art. According to critic Gerardo Mosquera, the artist played with "expressive grotesque figuration" from 1966 to 1975, describing a universe of satire and fantasies. Esa “figuración de lo grotesco expresivo" al decir del crítico Gerardo Mosquera la desempeñó el artista durante los años 1966 a 1975 y con ella describió un universo de sátiras y fantasías.
