Description: The Challenger drilled exploratory scientific core samples managed by the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego in over 600 deep sea locations, including the bottom of the Mariana Trench. I believe these were the deepest core samples ever retrieved on earth, providing real physical understanding of our planets plate tectonics.There were a very small number of these hand painted lettering plates from Japan produced. I believe they were only given to the high eschelon scientists.
