Description: VICTORIAN TRAINED TWO PIECE SILK SATIN BUSTLE WEDDING GOWN, c1889 This is an attractive Victorian ivory colored silk satin trained wedding gown from 1889 period that a mid to upper class gown that a woman would wear. A regal ivory satin 2 piece bustled gown is a deaccession from the Strong Museum in Rochester New York. The gown still retains original sewn in fabric Museum ID numbered catalog tag in skirt and sleeve of bodice. The bodice is decorated with scalloped machine lace around collar and draping down front closure. Bodice has hook and loop and mother of pearl button front closure fastening into a tight fitting bodice. Bodice are lined with a tan cotton with whale baleen fabric covered stays for giving the waist a tight shapely fit. The front of the skirt is accented with a pointed apron trimmed with machine starting a waist band with the body of skirt having large vertical pleats. The skirt closes by hooks and loops at the back and gathers with large vertical pleats in the center back with two large bustle effect fullness of material for a nice fall. The skirt is lined with white cotton. CONDITION The gown is in very condition. The fabric is in stable condition, except for the bodices underarms where there is discoloration and shattering and staining inside lining. Stain in back bodice. PROVENANCE Deaccession from the Strong Museum in Rochester New York. All pieces have a sewn in museum catalog numbered identification tag.
