Description: This is a vintage 1960s USN G-1 Flight Jacket, size 40, an iconic piece of U.S. Navy aviation history, worn during the Vietnam War by members of Patrol Squadron 26 (VP-26). The jacket is crafted from high-quality leather and bears the official USN stamp, making it a remarkable artifact for collectors and military enthusiasts alike. The Navy Patrol Squadron 26 (VP-26), also known as the “Tridents,” played a pivotal role during the Vietnam War. From November 1967 to April 1968, VP-26 was deployed to the Western Pacific, conducting operations from NS Sangley Point in the Philippines and U-Tapao Royal Thai Navy Airfield in Thailand. Their missions included:•Yankee Team Patrols: Surveillance operations in the Gulf of Tonkin.•Market Time Patrols: Monitoring and intercepting enemy movements along the southern coast of Vietnam.•Open-Sea Patrols: Covering the vast expanse of the South China Sea.The squadron faced significant challenges during this deployment, including the tragic loss of two aircraft and crew. Despite these sacrifices, VP-26 members earned numerous Air Medals, Vietnam Service Medals, and Vietnam Campaign Medals for their bravery and service. The squadron’s excellence was recognized with a Battle Efficiency “E” award in 1968.This is an original historical artifact from the Second World War era, and therefore shows natural wear and tear resulting from age and regular use during the period.
