Description: This is a hand built snare drum, produced by the Duplex Manufacturing Co.Henrietta street, St. Louis, Missouri sometime in the late 1890's.Emil Boulanger, founder of the Duplex company invented and filed the patent for heads separate tension in 1883. Shell measures....15.5" x 4" (or 39.3cm x 10cm). Been fitted with new lapped skins.I've used leather rather than gut for the wires. NOB shell, with a 1" wood re-enforcement strip on the inside. The nickel finish has some age related staining. But generally in great condition. The original 15 nickel plated centre-post lugs and all the original handmade tension rods. I found an old brass key which works on these you will see it in a few of the photos. It's included. Original snare strainer. The hoops are original to the drum. The factory finish is still in great condition for a 125 year old drum. Has the cast Duplex label fixed to the top one, and as you can see from the photos the top hoop was drilled at the manufacturing stage for a metal loop to attach a marching strap but it was long gone when I bought the drum.I suspect it wasn't played much. It's a rare antique and a great addition to any collection. All parts have been cleaned and polished. Thanks. The price quoted for postage to Europe and the UK can vary, so ask for quote before paying!Because once paid it can't be returned without incurring charges.Other quotes are pretty close to the actual cost.
