Description: Offered here is a neat piece of Western PA history, a circa 1960's - 1970's era thermometer advertising C.J. Valero's Garage. It appears that this was designed to be stuck on the outside of a window so you could glance at it and check the outside tempeture. There is a pad with an adhesive on the left side of the thremometer and the paper covering was never removed from it. Slickville is a small town located near Greensburg PA and was a company town built by Cambria Steel in the early 1900's to house workers who worked in the nearby mines. It was named after an official with the company and a portion of the community is now included on the National Register of Historic Places. According to his obituary, Carl "CJ" Valero was a WWII veteran so perhaps he opened the garage after returning from the war, likely repairing cars and brokering sales on the side. An auto broker acts as an intermediary between the buyer and the seller. They work on behalf of the buyer to find the desired vehicle, negotiate the price, and handle the paperwork and logistics of the transaction. They typically have access to a wide network of dealerships and can offer a range of options to the buyer.
