Description: I inherited this hat (includes original Stetson hat box) from my Grandfather in 1991. He owned and operated our family retail business (store) in the mid-west from the 1920s through the 1970s. This hat was my Granddad's "Special" hat as it was only worn during special occasions such as church, weddings, graduations & funerals. As I researched this hat I found another posting for this same model of hat. The listing states the hat is a rare, John B Stetson Company "Royal Stetson" cowboy men's hat". I have no idea how rare the hat is in comparison to others of the same vintage. I only know this specific hat is a nice one with minimal damage, worn by a special man on special occasions. The hat carries the name of my Grandfather as he had his name engraved on the inside head band in two places. The hat box shows it's age but is still intact (much like myself). I sent a couple of pics to the Stetson Hat Company and they responded the same day with valuable insight. Based upon what they could tell by looking at the pics, it appears the hat was probably manufactured prior to 1950. I was informed the exact manufacturing date might be visible on the inside of the head band. I have chosen not to attempt to pull down the head band for fear I would damage the hat. Reason for selling such a valuable hat: I do not understand why I was born with such a big head. I wear a 7 1/2 and Grandad's hat size was 7 1/8. I've always wished I could wear his "special" hat but it is now painfully obvious that will never happen. I've waited 33 years and still not a fit. I'm 72 and now realize the hat belongs to someone who can wear this hat with pride. Two more items, first there is a matching color string on the outside of the brim with a button on the end that I have no idea as to its functionality. Since the other end of the string is attached to the hat, I am throwing that in with the hat! Second, did you notice the pic with the note from Mr. Frank Charlton (the Quality Assurance Representative)? I found that note inside the hat box and that also is included in purchase price.
