Description: This lovely Murano sommerso ashtray was designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Murano, Italy, in the 1970s. Sommerso (Italian for ''submerged'') is a technique developed in Murano in the 1930s. While at Seguso, Poli created the submerged glass technique by overlapping different layers of glass with different consistencies and colors. Poli's hand-blown Sommerso pieces were awarded the Compasso d'Oro prize in 1954. He won five Grand Prix awards at the Milan Triennials. His designs were also in several Venice Biennale exhibitions, as well as in the Brussels World's Fair. Today, many of Polis pieces can be found in the Murano Glass Museum, the Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi in Rome, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Made of green, yellow, and transparent glass, this stunning glass art works perfectly as an ashtray, a vide poche, a catch-all, or just as a display piece. In perfect condition, these go for more than $3-400. This ashtray is in very good condition with minor surface scratches and corner chips. Lighting conditions dramatically affect the look of this piece. The first picture is a professional stock photo of the ashtray in perfect condition. The last picture was taken in bright sunlight.
