Henricus Johannes Melis (1845–1923), Dutch genre and landscape painter and teacher. He received two medals as a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam and then devoted himself entirely to painting. His work was influenced by the Hague School. He was engaged in genre and landscape painting. Among his pupils were F. H. Broeksmith, J. A. de Graaf and H. A. Haverkorn van Rijswijk. From 1869 to 1903 he participated in exhibitions in Amsterdam and The Hague. Wonderful painting in his traditional style.
