This is Augarten model number 1518. It is called ‘Rößl’ (Stallion; or Knight according to catalog). Gorgeous and perfect horse is shown in raring position. Genuine texture of porcelain beautifully resembles his fur. Figurine is glazed. It is all white. Looks splendid. Many porcelain makers and many artists designed raring stallions. This one is the best from the best. The Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten was founded in 1718, making it the second oldest in Europe. Augarten is famous among leading manufactories for the whiteness of its porcelain, its fine and delicate craftsmanship and its exquisite painting. This figurine is marked on the backside with standard incised behave production mark. Other marking is model number 1518 / 2, ‘Wien’, ‘Made In Austria’ and ‘I’ incised on the backside. Famous sculptor, Szendrö-Jaksch (1899 - ) designed this figurine in 1924. She is a well-known Art Deco sculptor. She created capricious female dancers and actresses after famous models, such as the well known Riki Raab. There were also genre-like figural groups and statuettes with the charm of the Far East. Still in production today are “Whipped Cream” (the dancer, Tilly Losch), “Riki Raab”, the lady in crinolines and the cavalier, “Moor”, “Cockatoo”, “Phantom” and the chess set.
