Raised on the hidden island of Themyscira, Diana is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta, and the Amazons are warriors created by the gods to protect humanity. Diana learns of Ares' betrayal of the gods and his war against mankind. When she rescues U.S. pilot Steve Trevor in 1918, she learns of the global war and the German chemist Dr. Isabel Maru’s plan to release deadly gas. Diana believes Ares is behind it, and with Steve, she leaves Themyscira to stop him. In London, they uncover Maru’s plan to deploy the gas at the Western Front. Diana liberates a village by defeating the Germans, and the team infiltrates a German gala to stop the gas. After killing General Ludendorff, Diana realizes the war continues because Ares is not dead. Ares reveals himself as Sir Patrick Morgan and tells Diana she is the "god-killer" since she is the daughter of Zeus. During their battle, Steve sacrifices himself to destroy the gas. Diana ultimately defeats Ares by redirecting his own lightning into him, ending the war. In the present, Diana continues her fight for justice as Wonder Woman, sending Bruce Wayne an email thanking him for the photograph.
